Live it up! Today is the longest day of the year and the first day of summer. If only the weather knew this and was just a touch warmer.
I figured a good way to celebrate the sun setting at 8:34 PM here in SF was with some lovely images from National Geographic. (Seattle’s sunset time is 9:10 PM, you lucky dogs.)
See what time sunset will be in your city here.
Instabilities in the sun’s magnetic field led to an explosion visible as a loop in the lower left.
Plasma pushes and drags magnetic fields into lines that cause these loops that can reach as high as ten earths.
A quiet day on the surface of the sun, no storms, just these lovely loops.

Welcome to your weekend, friends! It’s been a long week for me; I had to make an unexpected trip to Seattle, but I’m glad I’m here now. Emergency trips are terrible, and jeez I hope I never have to do that again. Luckily SF is only a short hop away…and thank goodness for Virgin America.
Call me crazy, but I love Seattle weather. It’s been drizzly and gray here, and I’m eating it up…that along with everything in the kitchen. It’s the perfect hibernation weather and I’m making the most of it before I return home. I hope you have a lovely weekend ahead of you filled with your favorite weather and lots of good food.
PS – I’m loving this photo by Guy Gillette. So sweet, but also kind of sad. Thank goodness for the Monroe Gallery. They’re amazing and I love their site and blog. I see lots of others using their photos, but never a photo credit. So many of my nostalgia Friday photos have come from them, so this is a thank you to them and their great collection of photos.
Last week I posted some beautiful images of animal and insect camouflage, and again this week here’s an unbelievable image by Polish photographer Mirosław Świętek. Believe it or not he took up photography two and a half years ago. So talented! Read more about him in this article in the Daily Mail and check out his online portfolio in the link above.
Once again I found this via The Conservation Report, which has become my new favorite daily read! (In case you haven’t yet noticed, I have many, many favorites.) Please take a sec to go read about the author and explore the site; there’s so much great stuff to see.
I came across this cool feature at NPR about some of the photos that Google Maps Street View captures. Jon Rafman has pulled a collection of photos for Google’s portfolio after scouring through the images. After a quick Google search, it looks as though there are quite a few sites that pick out memorable images, but these mostly focus on and girls flashing the car as it drives past or kids falling off a bike. While some are funny, there are some great catches on the list that Mr. Rafman pulled. Here are some of my favorites:
Let’s start the weekend off with “The King of Cool,” shall we?
I hope you have a killer weekend ahead. I hear there’s a Latin Salsa music festival this weekend, so I’m hoping to make it out to that tomorrow afternoon, and thankfully the weather’s supposed to be beautiful. Then I’m off to my friend Eve’s dance show, followed by drinks and snacks with the whole gang. It’s going to be a great Saturday.
What do you have planned? I hope you’re able to unwind, go crazy…or maybe have a healthy mix of both.

The Conservation Report has the coolest sets of animal camouflage on their blog. I’ve picked a few favorites to share with you, but be sure to click to see more from each of the photographers who were kind enough to share their images on flickr.

This humming bird is easier to spot, but so pretty among the flowers…

The rare pygmy sea horse, just discovered not too long ago. Yes, he was that good at hiding…

Thank goodness the weekend is just about here. I had quite a week, complete with two hours of hell at the DMV (there was some great people-watching though).
Do you ever feel like this guy here? I have been lately. Sometimes it seems that even the smallest things can add up and weigh you down. Nothing that a nice relaxing weekend can’t solve though. The weather here in San Francisco has been beautiful the past few days, so I think I’ll be making my way to Golden Gate park to soak up some Vitamin D.
What are you up to? Hope you have something wonderful planned.

Welcome to the weekend, friends. What are you up to? Don’t be shy, I see you there…your comments make my day.
I’ll be taking a note from Audrey with some reading and snacking on tap-I’m craving a good snack board. Hopefully I can get up early enough to make it to the farmer’s market, and maybe even swing by Tartine Bakery for some fresh bread in the afternoon. Funny, as I started this I wasn’t quite sure what I’d be up to, but I think I have a plan now. Terrific!
Have a wonderful weekend.
