I haven’t been posting much on Award Season fashion (or Fashion Week for that matter) because really, I’ve just been disappointed and uninspired by what I’ve seen. I was hoping the Oscars would pull me out of the slump and thankfully, they did. So, here we go with a special Sunday edition…
Hands down, best dressed, most squeal-inducing, beautiful, bold, unique, and elegant gown of the evening goes to the one-and-only Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture! I adore everything about this dress: the classic silhouette and neckline with a modern touch at the shoulders and back, the subtle lilac color, the exquisitely detailed coral beading and unique shape and the touch of sunshine yellow. Oh, I truly, truly DIE.
I realize this may be a controversial choice but I don’t care. I love it. I want it. Bravo, CB!
Another example of the lovely lilac color was Mila Kunis in Elie Saab. Beautiful and elegant.
Varying shades of purples were also seen on other leading ladies. Natalie Portman looks lovely in Rodarte with her growing bump and the elegant side-swept hair. On the other hand Scarlett’s Dolce and Gabbana and overall styling looks a bit cheap; like something one would wear to the Adult Film Awards. A little harsh I realize, but I expected more. Come on ScarJo, you’re newly single, now is the time to step it up.
On the bluer side of purple, things were hit and miss. Amy Adams, in Darren Le Gallo, was not doing the dress any justice with the tragic styling. (What’s with the necklace?) But I actually liked the lovely Marissa Tomei in a 1950 couture Charles James dress from Lily et Cie. I admit I didn’t love it at first, but the retro feel from the bias cut skirt is quite interesting.
One of the more clear trends of the night were the show-stopping red gowns worn by Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang, Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein Collection, and Anne Hathaway in Valentino. All were lovely, but I don’t think anyone can touch the red Valentino Heidi Klum wore to the Oscars back in 2008. Not a fair comparison perhaps, but Heidi’s will always be my fave.
And finally I had to include a couple of honorable mentions as they were close favorites. I loved Jennifer Hudson’s tangerine Versace gown. (What a color!) And the sweet Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa. A beautiful champagne color and elegant silhouette with the full skirt.
And cutest and best dressed couple Javier Bardem and one-month-post-baby Penelope Cruz in another lovely shade of red from L’wren Scott.
