Ooh, my favorite!

New Mix: SlimeBall

One of my favorite things to do is to go to work with my Lova and people watch from the DJ booth. It’s great fun and there’s always something interesting to see when you have girls in too-tight dresses and alcohol involved. Listening-in on requests from people is also an interesting past time; I won’t go into details in this post, but there is an etiquette to making requests, and most do not follow it.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard a girl come up and ask “Umm, when are you going to play something that’s on the radio?” (This usually during a remix of a popular radio tune.) Song selection aside, this has to be one of the lamest things I’ve ever heard. Sweetie, there’s more to life than what you see on TV and what you hear on the radio. To be fair, I admit that I do love a good cheesy pop song, but to limit yourself only to things that are easily accessible is a crime.

So on that note, if you’re looking for something deeper than radio playlists of the same 20 songs, I present to you the club DJ’s answer back to all of the BS requests for Ke$ha and Miley Cyrus: Bass-heavy club music at its best, this is what dance music is.

Be sure to listen out for Starkillers (#5), Empire of the Sun (#7), Autodidakt (#9), and Lauren Flax – Richie Panic & UFO remix (last track).

Don’t worry B, I love you.

Check out Beyonce’s great new music video. Love the 50’s housewife/pin-up vibe.

Disco Suite Volume 1

Here’s a new mix for your listening pleasure. I’ve always been a fan of disco music, and I shared my embarrassing story of calling in song requests on Saturday nights before; but now there’s a whole new class, and even if I had to call-in there’d be no need to be ashamed. This mix showcases the best in modern disco music…all of the best parts of classic disco without the cheesiness. Each of the tracks are great, but you MUST check out the ones by Empire of the Sun, Flight Facilities (my fave!), and 40 Thieves.

M.I.A Born Free

Holy shit, M.I.A is back with a crazy new sound and her first single just hit the internets! It’s epic, and the video is UNREAL, like in the sense that I’m still shaken and may not be able to sleep tonight. It’s intense, scary, obscene, grotesque, and disturbing–but it’s also soul-stirring at the same time. If you’ve seen Battle Royale, you may get a sense of what I’m talking about.

WARNING: This video is very graphic and disturbing. It’s NOT for everyone and it’s definitely not suitable for work.

Happy Friday!

Hello friends, it’s the weekend! I’ve returned home to SF and have some city exploring and a date night ahead. Tomorrow night we are going to see a music and video mixing show. Who would have thought that this idea of video mixing would have such deeps roots…looks like this pic dates back to the 60’s.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend ahead of you.

Phoenix + PS22 Chorus…I think I my head might explode. Both of these things make me so happy.

If the song sounds familiar, or if you’d like to hear the original, check out the second track on the Stranger in the Tub mix I posted a few weeks ago.

Ok Go’s Rube Goldberg video

This is the latest viral video sensation, and I’m a bit late on the uptake, but I just had to post it to share with anyone that may have missed it. I’ve always been taken with Rube Goldberg machines, so I was excited to see this. Another great one is the Honda commercial from 2003 that took 607 takes to get right.

Start your week with this wonderful video.

Jarbas Agnelli composed a score based on a photo of birds sitting on a wire.

Don’t ask where he gets his titles from…

This week’s mix is a progressive collection of nu disco/alternative/dance.  I love the way it starts and ends on a mellow note, but be warned that everything in between will have you wishing it was Saturday night.  (And yes, I am biased.)

1. Fences- Phoenix
2. Lisztomania- Phoenix
3. West end girls- Pet Sop Boys
4. Two takes it – Mr. Oizo ft Carmen Castro
5. Get myself into it – The Rapture
